With Facebook Like Button plugin, let a user share your content with friends on Facebook.
When the user clicks the Like button on your site, a story appears in the user's friends' News Feed with a link back to your website.
The installation procedure is standard, then upload the zip file, enable the plugin and choose the options that you like more.
The plugin can inject the html code for the buttons before or after the article content, but the code of the comments box only after.
The following scheme show the containers for all the components.
All the containers ("DIV" or "P" tag) can be customize by CSS code, and all components can be enable or disable.
Open Graph tags are <meta> tags that you add to the <head> of your website to describe the entity your page represents. with the last version of the plugin you can customize these options, so that the description or the image shown in the link is the one chosen by you.
- The default object type is "article" but you can use what you want, like "album" or "book" ... , I recommand to do not change it.
- The default image path is empty and it's the image that you want show in the FB link, when no other image are found in the current article content. If you leave empty when no other image are found, the plugin use his own default image "link.png".
- The description can be the content of the meta tag description or the first paragraph.
In the last version you can choose even if the social buttons must be show in the frontpage view or category view, and the open graph support works differently in "not article" views, because the informations included in the head of the page can't manage many buttons at the same time, and sure the opengraph type tag can not be "article" type.
To know how the link will be rendered you can use the tool lint: http://developers.facebook.com/tools/lint/ , that tool can be very usefull to know how FB see your page. With that tool you can verify your url page ,but also force FB to update the information about it, like the image used or the description. After you change image or description information you need to update the url with this tool, in order to refresh the facebook cache of your article.
Facebook needs to scrape your page to know how to display it around the site. Facebook scrapes your page every 24 hours to ensure the properties are up to date. The page is also scraped when an admin for the Open Graph page clicks the Like button and when the URL is entered into the Facebook URL Linter. Facebook observes cache headers on your URLs - it will look at "Expires" and "Cache-Control" in order of preference. However, even if you specify a longer time, Facebook will scrape your page every 24 hours.
If you are a moderator and a application administrator you can see all the comments about the application website domain in the page https://developers.facebook.com/tools/comments. This is another reason to connect your website to a Facebook application.
If you need to integrate this plugin with the Google +1 button and the Twitter button, then try to download the extension Facebook - Twitter - Google plugin for Joomla +1.
About the autopublish content on Facebook: to setup the plugin you need a Facebook application, then you can follow the instruction:
How to setup a Facebook application for a website
To setup you will need:
- Facebook App ID
- App secret key
- Administrator account id / Pages id where you want to publish the content
You, as application and page administrator, need to be login in Facebook the first time for the authorization procedure. So the first time that you save an article you need to have the rigth permission, if you don't have it then the procedure will fail.
The autopublish action is triggered by the "apply" button in joomla 1.5 and by the "save" button in all the other versions.

Notes
If the Like button is placed near the edge of an HTML element with the overflow property set to hidden, the flyout may be clipped or completely hidden when the button is clicked. This can be remedied by setting setting the overflow property to a value other than hidden, such as visible, scroll, or auto.
This plugin works well with PHP 5 version, then, if your webhosting provider can do it, switch from PHP 4 to PHP 5, in order to solve error like:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}'
Although we try to fix many bugs, we can not imagine a scenario in which the plugin is executed, largely due to some functions inhibited by your hosting provider. We therefore invite you to tell us when you have problems, so you can investigate the causes and resolve them.
Final note: be carefull using many FB block and plugins, because they can create some conflicts and the result will be unpredictable.
It would also be advisable that you follow our facebook page to stay updated on the latest version.

This is article plugin, then you can like the url of the article, not the fronpage.
If you want a like button for the front page, the u can use the FB like button code and put it in a blank module, so publish it in the front page.
Try to use firefox and firebug in order to figure out if the code of the plugin is loaded correctly but is not visible cause some css problem or if there isn't any code.
the plg run perfectly for me, but
i'd be very happy to know if it's possible to add a bottom margin. I know that it should be possible with a css but how?

Any idea what happens here? The functions are embedded in contents not having anything to do with mod_rokweather/googleweather.class.php...
Sometime it's possible have problem with other Facebook extension cause the javascript files loaded can be different.

It would be nice to have it displayed on specific categories only. We have a few admins on the page and i dont want to exclude each category id evrytime. I need the Buttons only on our "News" Category...
I use a category blog layout with thumbnails http://sewisc.org/invasives/all-invasive-species and only want the buttons on the article page themselves. This works because I turned off category views in the plugin. This also removes them from a different blog layout. http://sewisc.org/sewisc-events

Like works, share works but what exactly is the send button for? It shows up even when the comment box is not enabled. Is the send only for the comments section?

Ho un problema che non riesco a risolvere, ho installato il plugin e ora negli articoli presenti sul sito son ben visibili i pulsanti Like, Send e il pulsante Share.
Il problema che è che quando clicco su Like o su Send, il popup che si apre con il quale posso commentare il mio Like o mandare l'articolo come messaggio ad un contatto viene tagliato dal bordo di fine articolo e non riesco a capire come posso fare in modo che il popup resti in primo piano indipendentemen te dal fatto che esca dal riquadro dell'articolo.

Quindi prova a modificare il file css del tuo template, e in particolare verifica che non sia presente la proprietà "overflow:hidden ;"
Non so come si chiami il contenitore dunque dove viene visualizzato il plugin e non so quindi dove inserire la proprietà overflow:auto oppure overflow:visibl e.

It's also avoided to change the content of iframe from another domain...
However let me know if you can do it!
Then if you want make it works with different compoments you must change the code of these components template.
So even the new content generator can load all normal plugins.
however I see there is an option in the store configuration: Enable content mambots/plugins in descriptions , you must enable it!!

This will make your plugin compatible with UTF-8, such that characters like æøå is rendered correctly on its way to facebook.

I have one very important question:
is it possible to do something with your nice plugin in enable it to "see" pagination of the articles in Joomla?
I have articles with many pages. When somebody posts comment under page, let's say, number 5, this comment is visible not only under page 5, but under each one page of the article.
The same happens when I want to share exact page of an article with facebook - plugin shows first page of the article... but I want to share exact page 5 or 8 etc.
Is it possible for plugin to see exact page for sharing with facebook and for comments?

I have updated your plugin to ver 3.7 on joomla 1.5.25 and it's working great so far. Just one thing, it would be great if you can add support for non latin characters in object description. That's the only thing that is not working correctly,it doesn't pass the non latin characters to facebook.

I'm using Joomla 1.5.26 and facebook like and share version 4.1 - I've used the pluging successfully on other sites but on www.paulfblackburn.co.uk the like and share buttons are appearing on the front page. Any ideas why and what I can do about it?

the plugin looks great, but unfortunately I can't get the description of the article to be transmitted for the share button. I've enabled "use first parapgraph", but there is always the meta descritpion of the site as the description.... Any help how to fix this?

this is realy nice plug-in but i have the following problem - when i enabled it - in my page source the "og" tags are put in HTML comment block so they are not visible - see below:

first of all thank you for this great component. I am using the component (v.2.1 on Joomla 1.5.26) since a while without any probs. It appears on "almost all" my articles without any problem.
Now recently I found that that articles published in a certain category does not display correctly ("FB like counter send" is being omitted). When moving the article to a different category (same section) everything works fine. The article itself, as well as the related menu are set to public access.

I got a question regarding open graph options. Is it possible to use the meta description of the article / menu item?
We are using version 4.5. We started with Object description "use first paragraph" but sometimes the first paragraph is empty or there are a lot of " " in the facebook story. So we tried to use the meta description. I maintained a description for each article but the plugin always uses the global meta description of the site which is equal through the whole website of course.
Is there any possibility?

In frontpage view when i click to the share button on first article, in Facebook link appear incorrect the link of third article.
In article view when I click to the share button of first article, the FB link is OK.

I have 1 query - on my site I only have a few articles, the options seem to display fine, but on one of the articles I have noticed when you click 'like' it flashes up so quickly that you don't have time to press anything. I have tried this in Firefox and Chrome and it keeps re-occurring.
It is the latest version, and it is a fresh install. Also sometimes when I press 'like' and post to feedback, it doesn't show up.

Because I've narrowed it down to that this problem is just when I have æøå in the headline or so.

There is one problem for me though. Because I'm from Norway in lots of the article headlines or photoalbums contains the letters, æøå your plugin won't post to facebook and won't even count it as a like.
I've searched in the .php file but I can't seem to find the problem. Can you help me please?

quando ho abilitato autopublish le modalità di registrazione erano diversa da quelle nel filmato ho ricevuto un token e un autopublisher administrator id fatto articolo fake x provare salvo una volta e nessun msg risalvo e ricevo solo conferma salvatagio e su FB non appare nulla
